The information below contains details about Necromancy's tutorial and early levels as well as listing a large amount of tooltips for its core content. You've been warned.
The entry-level guide
Players begin their journey entering the Underworld portal located near Draynor lodestone.
Upon doing so allow you to begin the "Necromancy!"
quest.- After a cutscene and some dialogue you will be guided through completing a Makeshift communion ritual.
- Players will then take on some ghost trolls to get 1 talent point.
- Players will then unlock the Conjure Skeleton Warrior talent in the Well of Souls.
- Upon quest completion players will reach Level 5 Necromancy.
From here on players can explore the City of Um and pick-up a few handouts:
- Soul Supplies will provide some free supplies (4 Basic ritual candles and 12 Basic ghostly ink)
- Selene will unlock some of the Necromancy prayers assuming you meet the requirements.
- Buried Bargains will provide some free tier 10 Necromancy robes.
- The Ghost Troll Cave allow players to train Necromancy through combat and acquire a 'Deathstorm drape'.
- Players may also begin working on completing the new City of Um area achievement task sets.
Upon reaching level 20 players will unlock access to significantly more content.

An Owlery | A place where there are owls. |
Boat Shop | A place where players can take a boat tour or rent a boat. |
There are two currencies, Souls and Talent Points.
- Souls are obtained by performing rituals and interacting with the citizens of Um.
- Talent Points are earned by gaining Necromancy XP through combat.
Talent Points can be spent to earn Talents with each Talent costing 1 Talent point.

Unlocking a talent tree tier requires:[Necromancy level | Souls | at least 1 talent of the previous tier].
U = Requires previous themed talent first
Q = Requires a quest.
Necromancy abilities function slightly differently than ordinary combat abilities. There are no threshold abilities and the basic attack acts as an ability but generates 9% adrenalin. Players are encourage to use Full Manual in order to fully grasp each ability as they progress through the skill. However, players still have the option to use revolution.
Incantations are the magic spells of Necromancy which require up to 4 new runes.

Rituals allow players to progress through the Necromancy skill and to acquire Necromancy related items. To perform a ritual players will need to use [Candles | Glyphs | Offerings].*
There are brand new Necromancy candles which players can use for rituals with the best version being needed for the best rituals. Glyphs require a new type of item called Ghostly Ink and similarly will need the best version for the best rituals.

The type of offering for communion rituals affects the number of souls output.
Glyphs
There are two types of glyphs
- Foundational Glyphs - Required glyphs to start a ritual.
- Alteration Glyphs - Optional glyphs which yield various benefits

Ritual Disturbance
Whilst performing rituals players may come across random events. The higher a player's soul attraction the more often they appear.

Alongside this update Jagex are introduce a new are task set for the City of Um. For now there will only be Easy/Medium task sets. Upon completion players can get the task set item, Tome of Um.

Area Rewards
Here are some bonus bits of information:
- The Ghost troll cave is a shard instance similar to the Senntisten Asylum and the Fort Forinthry Crypt on their release.
- Certain Necromancy prayers, such as the t99 one, Ruination have Necromancy levels.
- The Ritual disturbances will appear over players and are noticeable even when the area is crowded with other players.
- Pets will be hidden in the ritual site.
- The City of Um Lodestone hotkey is 'U'.
- Players will be given 3 free action bars and 50 free bank space on release.
- Upon leveling up there are various chat messages notifying the player of new changes in the City of Um.
- The new hitchance target information applies to all 4 combat styles.
- Only Necromancy benefits from the damage potential (accuracy changes).
- There appeared to be a bug with Tears of Guthix
